Square Foot Gardening with Ken Clark from Waiheke
Ken first learnt about Square Foot Gardening about 22 years ago. He proceeded to do it his own way for 17 years, 35ears ago he retired to Waiheke Island & started SFG in earnest.
Ken lives on a small size section and produces an abundance of fruit and veges using the Square Foot Gardening method. SFG advocates growing only what you need on a weekly basis. It is a fantastic system for busy people who wish to have a more sustainable life and great home grown food with the minimum fuss and effort. The workshops cover everything from seeds to eating and building a Square Foot Garden.

100 Citrus for schools:
August 10th, 2011

We had a wonderful day on Sunday the 7th of August providing 100 fruit trees to local schools and kindergartens. All 100 fruit trees now have their roots down in their new garden homes in schools and kindergartens all over Auckland. We would like to thank all the teachers and parents for sharing our vision of free and healthy food by taking action and being involved in the ‘Citrus in schools’project.
We have three main goals with this project - to support families with lowering their grocery bills; to encourage local food production; and to teach children how to plant and care for fruit trees. Our commitment for July 2012 is to provide 500-1000 fruit trees to schools and kindergartens. If you want to be part of this project and suggest a site for the planting of a fruit tree please register on our website: www.fruittrees.org.nz. Best wishes, Your fruit tree ladies Judith, Justine, Karen, and Jo

Workshop: Dowsing for your home and garden
April 10th, 2011
April: Sunday 17.04.2011
When a house is connected to the main electricity supply, voltage is continually present through the wire, even if the circuit is not in use. All electrical appliances when in use, may radiate electromagnetic fields and/or microwave frequencies. Studies have shown that these fields may be detrimental to the human body. Albino Goal will introduce alternatives to balance the effect of these detrimental fields to the human body and to plants.
About Albino Gola:
Albino Gola is a BBEI Certified Electro Biology Environmental Inspector and Teacher. He is a recognised expert and consultant in Dowsing and Balancing Fields of Environmental and Geopathic Stress in Land, home and workplaces.
What to expect:
In this workshop Albino will introduce the concept of laylines, underground streams, cometic energy and the curry grids. He will demonstrate how to balance electromagnetic fields in your home and your property by using a bar code. He will explain the Hartmann net and show how to dowse for your house, garden, plants and food.
This workshop is for people who are interested in improving the general energy flow and wellbeing in their home and also for gardeners interested in increasing food production by planting fruit trees in the right location.

Woofing – an alternative holiday experiance
December 10th, 2010
Recently Sara, one of the Mount Eden village people team, had a few days WWOOFing (Willing Workers On Organic Farms). She was working with Charlie and Joy Pringle helping weed pingao grass at Long Beach near Dunedin. Pingao grass is a native sand dune grass which is being re established on a number of beaches around NZ. It is distinctive because of it’’s spectacular golden colour.
In exchange for 3-4 hours work each day in an amazingly beautiful setting Sara was able to enjoy the hospitality of Charlie and Joy, staying with them in their home. This included eating yummy homemade bread and meals prepared by Charlie and learning of the conservation work they have been committed to for some years. Read more about WWOOFing at www.wwoof.co.nz

Community Garden
September 2nd, 2010
The Mount Eden Community Garden group has just received the soil test back for the new site in Poronui Street, just behind the Bowling Club. The test is not as bad as the one from the first suggested site, however the site land has enough contamination that we do not want to plant edible plants directly into the soil. So we are going to go ahead with raised beds using a geotextile barrier. Hopefully we will start putting in the raised beds in September.
Michelle has been in touch with Metro Water to get the water back on so we will be able to water the garden during the summer. We are trying to keep the costs down and we have found some stakable wooden sleeves on Trade instead of the more expensive raised garden beds. We intend to buy 16 of them, 1 x 1.2 metres, which will start our garden. There will be a working bee, rubbing in linseed oil into the sleeves to extend their life. After that, we can arrange for the soil to be delivered so we can get the first part of the garden off the ground. Please contact Michele michele@locke.org.nz if you are interested in participating.

Grafting workshop
September 1st, 2010
The grafting workshop was a much smaller group and everyone in the group got a chance to graft with Ken Clarks feedback and supervision. We also learned that grafting can causes accidents. Unfortunately one women cut her finger, but luckily it was not too deep and a plaster did the job.
It was wonderful to learn how to graft onto rootstock and being able to get exactly that fruit tree that you want into your garden. In my case, it is a plum tree from a friend of ours that I admired and now I will graft from it.

Square Foot Gardening wokshop with Ken Clark
August 31st, 2010

This weekend we had Ken Clark, the food garden master from Waiheke, in Mt Eden village to teach us about Square Foot Gardening, Grafting and food production in your own garden.
The Square foot gardening workshop was well attended. The workshop started with a blue sky in our garden but we soon had to relocate into our garage as it was raining cats and dogs. It was great to see that we had so many school teachers attending the SFG workshop, committed to bringing food gardens into schools. I am please to say that Ken agreed to do one more SFG workshop this year, which is on the 3.10.2010
